Bayer Leverkusen quase "roubou" estrela do Borussia Dortmund: "Isso me irrita até hoje"
Em entrevista concedida ao podcast alemão "Phrasenmäher", o CEO do Bayer Leverkusen, Fernando Carro, deu detalhes de como montou a equipe que conquistou o inédito título da Bundesliga na temporada passada.
E o dirigente ainda fez uma revelação: o meio-campista inglês Jude Bellingham, atualmente no Real Madrid, quase foi contratado pelo Leverkusen.
"Estávamos muito interessados em Bellingham um ano antes dele se mudar para o Borussia Dortmund. Simon Rolfes (diretor de futebol) o queria. Bellingham tinha 16 anos na época. Assistimos aos vídeos dele com Rudi Völler e ficamos todos impressionados", comentou Carro.
"Também tivemos a aprovação do nosso comitê de acionistas para poder gastar um determinado valor de transferência que era necessário. Mas, de última hora, o Birmingham pediu o dobro e então não o contratamos", continuou.
E Fernando Carro completou: "O fato de não termos feito isso naquela época me irrita até hoje".
Em 2019, o Bayer Leverkusen poderia contratar Bellingham por 8 milhões de euros. Em 2020, o Borussia Dortmund contratou o jovem inglês por 26 milhões de euros e, no ano passado, o negociou com o Real Madrid por 133,9 milhões de euros.
Jude Bellingham, hoje com 21 anos de idade, é um dos principais jogadores do Real Madrid e da seleção inglesa, com valor de mercado estimado em 180 milhões de euros.
